But for someone like Toby Fox, ConcernedApe, or even Notch etc small time indie devs with small budget titles, they're making a killing when their indie games strike gold. Nintendo is more cash rich than ever, they sold more software in the Switch era than ever before. As for Playstation, their most profitable games are live service games with microtransactions.

People are buying lots of games, so much so that a true "crash" is never gonna happen and indies will always pick up the slack because the games are easier to churn out and have much lower budgets plus wind up massively popular.

Keighleys game shows are always full of bottom of the barrel crap that nobody would want to play so they pay him to advertise their slop. That's it. What those companies dont realize is that way of advertising just doesn't grab people's eyes. Most games sell these days via word of mouth. It's why games like Stardew Valley are still topping the charts on phones, consoles, AND PC. , despite it being a pixelshit indiegame. Word of mouth and the gameplay is fun and addictive. Lower budget titles like that are what will carry gaming while AAA drops the ball.

Devs want to stick to proven formulas because it's extremely risky to make a game these days. It's why most companies are refusing to experiment and do something new because budgets have blown up and they have to ensure people will buy it, but they wind up shooting themselves in the foot by trying to cater to too many people instead of actually making a fun and interesting game. Too many people who want to make money in the games industry and not enough people who understand how games work, why people make them and what makes them fun. When gaming was more niche and games didn't need to sell as much to be profitable, you saw more unique ideas that werent trying to be the new fortnite/overwatch/call of duty etc etc.
