Halo was forced by Microsoft to kill PC gaming so they can take over the console market. Bungie intentionally deviated from what FPS was to dumb it down for retards. The series only started to get better with Infinite's campaign because Microsoft gave up on the franchise beating Call of Duty which meant Halo could start taking from the actual good FPSs that came before and during it. Doom 2016 was also a great help for this. A Half-Life 3 would also help Halo Studios with the future of Halo campaigns. Halofags are non-gamers who only play Halo and nothing else.

I played through the series again earlier this year. It was btter than I thought it was.

No, combat is just combat, you can come up with creative ways to kill your enemies but if combat is the only thing your FPS can do then it's a shit FPS game. FPS games that makes you think to give you a little break from combat while also making you explore are significantly better FPS games. Unreal's singleplayer in the 90s already did everything Halo CE's campaign did but they try to push Halo like it was this legendary series.

When Halo was at its peak it was even more popular than Mario or Pokemon. The franchise was a global sensation that single handedly carried the Xbox brand on its own and changed game design forever with health regeneration. Online multiplayer, split screen single player, LAN party. This thing was the complete package and at a quality nobody could compete let alone match. It even offered excellent lore and a pretty decent story too. Halo was a 1 of a kind game franchise that nobody could copy even if they wanted and MS drove it into the ground. Their golden gooze. Gaming before and after Halo were 2 very different worlds.

That's the thing though, Doom has superior combat to Halo as well. Bungie was wrong when it comes to game design, that's why their franchise died and has to find new ground to stand on. I'm also exclusively talking about singleplayer, not multiplayer. I never cared for multiplayer, and I heavily believe the multiplayer is to blame for why the Halo series went under in the first place.

Halo 1 Legendary is slightly on par with Heroic from other Halo games due to your non-shield hp being so high. Halo 2 Legendary is straight up not fun because it's insanely hard. Halo 3/Reach Legendary is a good ol' challenge.
