"Investors" usually don't see AAA game prototypes and decide to fund them. Usually development studios are under a publisher who will allocate funds to studios based on their pitches and prior work.

In the case of Concord, Sony collaborated with Firewalk on the Concord premise for years then bought the studio from its previous owner. "Investors" never saw Concord before the trailers and demos.

Sony made a record 14B that year. Twice Disney with half the matketcap. The just swept it up with all the profits so nobody who wasn't a culture warrior cared in the end.

That's not exactly how funding works with publicly traded companies. People overestimate investor capabilities to begin with anyways. It's not like they have some deep knowledge about how to accurately make good investments.
