Point and Click Adventure Games
Hello /v/, I played Day of the Tentacle for the first time and really liked it and it made me realize I've never played an actual point and click adventure game before this one. Do you guys have any favorite point and click you can recommend? Any classics must plays or lesser known gems?

It's not strictly necessary but I would. Note that the Secret Special Edition is ass. You can play in "Classic Mode" so it's not a complete loss but even then you'll have to put up with it being a game from 1990. MI2 Special Edition is decent though.

Not him but it's personality
No seriously when you boil it down, that's 95% of the reason why people develop crushes on fictional characters
As long as they have a personality that clicks with you and their appearance doesn't make you want to gouge your eyes out, you will develop an attraction

I've been going through the Frog Detective games recently and though they're ridiculously short and closer to hidden object rather than any sort of puzzle they've been really charming and enjoyable

The Deponia series.
If you can, give it a go.
Just be aware, the last games tend to crank the "mad man puzzle logic" up to 11.
>New to these kind of things, what does that mean?
Its when a puzzle makes less and less sense to find a way to be solved using conventional logic. Reason vary between devs being sociopathic nerds, to just the game trying to make a joke.
For example, imagine that in order to progress, the guy you plays as with tried to do something but gets distracted "because there is a catchy sound" playing on the background. So, what do you do? You find the source of the noise? You try and tty again until you do not get distracted? You use something as airbuds? No, the answer is going directly to the games volume options, turn the music down to zero, and continue. Its funny, but unless you are autistic or reading a guide you are likely going to get stuck here for a while and be frustrated.

This, and also quest for infamy. QfI has a wonderful intro where, instead of choosing your class from the start, you take jobs in the town and who you work for determines the skillset you build. It's great.

Quest for Glory as a five part series is an especially good Adventure Game series. It has some minor RPG elements, but it uses them to do away with the usual moon-logic of Adventure games of the golden age. Basically, most puzzles involve something you'd actually think you could do via one of the three (later four) playstyles. You can even learn skills from every class on one character and just try to do it all at once if you can handle it. Makes puzzle solving still challenging but in a way that makes practical sense.

I love Heroine's Quest but it's not as good as QfG at avoiding moon logic.

Day of the Tentacle is the sequel to Maniac Mansion if you want to see the Edison family when they were evil.
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is one of the best point and click adventure games. There's other Indiana Jones adventures games like Last Crusade which came out before but Fate of Atlantis is peak and an original story rather than a movie adaption.
Last Flight of the Amazon is like a more goofy comedic version of Indiana Jones and a lesser known game but fun.
Leisure Suit Larry 6 is the best Larry game and a point and click. The first 3 are text parsers and 5 was the first point and click (4 doesn't exist due to a meta joke in the series) but 5 is my least favorite. 7 is also really good. 6 acts as a reboot since 5 was so poorly recieved so you can start with that one.

Kings Quest 6 5 and 6 are also really good especially 6 but they're Sierra so there's dead ends and softlocks and less player friendly. They do have a recurring characters and stories but the earlier games are text parsers.

Other games are hard to reccomend as they're sequels to text parser games so it depends how you feel about text parsers.

I've sort of fallen into a trap where I really like the gameplay premise of adventure games but I just don't find the story material compelling enough to sit through in most cases(it's a problem in a genre where there's so much dialogue and the story is often woven directly into the logic of puzzles). played, monkey island, played day of the tentacle, played king's quest, I've kind of had my fill of cartoons, fairytales, and goofball comedies.

Grim Fandango.
The Secret of Monkey Island
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Legend of Kyrandia
Legend of Kyrandia Hand of Fate
Legend of Kyrandia Malcolm's Revenge
The Dig (highly recommend)
Torin's Passage
Fable (no not that Fable)
The Colonel’s Bequest
Laura Bow The Dagger of Amon Ra (sequel to colonel's bequest)
king's quest 1 2 3 4 5 6 (stop at 6)
Simon the Sorcerer
Simon the Sorcerer II: The Lion, the Wizard and the Wardrobe
Little Miss Fortune
For a Adventure Game/RPG Hybrid try out Quest for Glory: So you want to be a hero? Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire, Quest for Glory III: Wages of War, Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness, Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire. Also try similar games to Quest for Glory like Heroine's Quest and Quest for Infamy.

Mage's Initiation is also decent.

There's some more serious adventure games like Gabriel Knight if you wanna solve a voodoo murder in New Orleans I think the modern retro point and click Kathy Rain from 2016 was inspired by it or at least I got a similar vibe from it.

I know this is Anathema but since a bunch of Adventure Game enjoyers are here I need some help.

In the early 2000s I acquired a CD with a bunch of small titles on it. One of them was a point & click adventure game where you played as a young girl in the underworld who has no memories from life. She's a bit rebellious and tries to escape the underworld (afterlife) and reclaim her memories. At the end of the game she remembers her name.

It has a somewhat tim burton inspired style but also has a lot of Double Fine Productions flavor to it. It was a very long time ago. I was young. I don't remember much but it played like a point and click adventure game.

Anyone have the slightest clue what I played?

GK1 is probably my personal favorite adventure game for the way it balances a serious horror/thriller storyline with bits of lighthearted comedy. I'm aware of some of the other serious games out there and have played a decent chunk of them but it's pretty hit or miss, partly my on me for being fickle

A great part of QfG is that you can take a character from the first game and transfer him through every game in the series.

Police Quest 2 is one of my favorite games and the OST is 80s synth goodness. Roland MT-32 had some great sound capabilities and is one of my favorite sound sets along with Turbo Grafx 16/PC Engine CD

Very true. This matters more statistically, and for items, than anything else mind you. The game doesn't really remember that you're a Katta friend in II for example, even though you are a Katta friend in III. It just assumes the Katta dig you. And so on. It's not even a gripe just a small limitation on an otherwise wonderful series.
