Quite the metric for quality for quality given that aside from New World there hasn't been a mainstream MMORPG release since 2014 (The Elder Scrolls Online)

Also 14 isn't a MMO in the traditional sense. It's a fucking visual novel where you teleport around the map talking to people and click nodes for fetch quests. The zones are just 3D sets for the visual novel to take place in. Very little combat in the hundreds of hours I've played. Until you hit endgame and then all of a sudden you're running dungeons and raids.

No we would do everything together in the beginning. Then slowly over time they started to hang out with other people. Even foregoing activities with the group to sit in an apartment for hours on end. It was just weird because the first one to troon out was very anti-trans. Then I took a break from the game and the other two stayed, one was already in his pre-transitioning stage. I'm pretty sure he groomed my other friend but when I came back dude when from playing a male roegadyn to a female midlander. I didn't really pick up on it because I thought he just wanted to play a female character which are the go-to choice in this game I would argue. But then he invited me to an ex trial party and there were three other very obvious troons in the call and all they did was flirt with each other and my friend. This design is outdated. It drives potential players away as more story accumulates. No, the majority of new players are not going to shell out money for a story AND level skip. Why slog and waste time through a visual novel or spend money to skip when new players could get their gaming fix elsewhere for less money and time? They should just take a page from their mainline series and make every expansion a new starting point for anyone interested. Easy access to fun instead of more and more hurdles to catch up to the main playerbase.

Even if they made skips free, it would be a fucking mess from a storytelling perspective and I don't want to pay $15/mo to do fetch quests and teleporting all over the place. 85-90% of the time I'm not even doing combat in their quests. The structure sucks.

The more voiced cutscenes there are the faster it is to skip through actually. Back in 2.0-4.0 you had to actually play the game, in DT you just walk directly between cutscenes because if there was anything else between nobody but skippers would be done in time for the raid.
