Im not sold on the UI either but I cant really judge that until ive played it for awhile. And I thi k the characters are cool and they all have fun backstories and personality. It looks like it will be borderlands 2 tier characters to me.

The playable characters all look really powerful so I worry about the game being too easy.

Licensed parts. Certain manufacturer parts can appear on other manufacturer guns. (eg a Maliwan shotgun can possibly have a Hyperion accessory giving it an ADS shield and a Torgue magazine giving it explosive gyrojet bullets)
This coincides with relics being all in on manufacturer loyalty bonuses this game which can still give you buffs if your gun has licensed parts on it.

I'd argue that Gamestop and the like are the ones that really drove it. They had real incentive to get and push pre-orders and Collectors editions as a means of getting people in store. It kind of just perpetuated from there and transitioned to digital stores since it had become such a commonplace thing. Could even argue what also drove it was Publishers realising how easy it was to get upfront money/sales, which also tied into lack of ability to refund easily until digital refunds also became commonplace. All this being said it was most definitely console games that were the primary driver in the adoption of the practice.

Honestly, I'm fine with this. Hyperion's gimmick in 3 of having a shield barrier while ADSing was kinda nothing for me, as I rarely used ADS except when using snipers or jakobs pistols. Their weapons also progressively got uglier with each game.
Atlas gimmick in 3 reminded me of Resistance, which was kinda cool I guess. Too bad they're weapons generally werent that good.

You're just making events happen so you can watch more of this terrible fanfic continue. This kind of game has to appeal to people with no jobs or real responsibilities. Because Borderlands as a whole is just a sad song with nothing to say.

Hitting level cap at 50 and then having to wait on DLC so I can actually max out a skill tree and have fun with a character the way that they're designed to be? For like the 6th time? No thank you. My time and money are better spent elsewhere.

No, they haven't. The biggest issue with BL3 was the story. They don't care about that. Tiny Tina's Wonderland is evidence of that. They're never going to improve in that department. Borderlands will never improve. It will never get better. Gearbox should go away and stay gone.

Besides the very poor handling of Maya's death, the story on a whole was largely just meh and formulaic. The actual main problem was that it insisted on making almost every piece of dialogue in the game a silly fart joke or meme of some kind. But the cherry on top is the fact that they couldn't even bother to incorporate the BL2 vault hunters into the story. The whole game is nothing but female side characters from BL2 talking the entire time.

I really liked the first game even if its setting was boring it was a really solid attempt at diablo 2 but as a fps. Got a couple level 69s over the years with roland being my favorite, It was always really funny to get an atlas machine gun with 200 bullets proc metal storm and unload 150 in 2 seconds into a badass head watching your xbox framerate choke while roland screams CRITICAL BIIIAAATCH
I really really really liked borderlands 2 at one point but they kinda killed it when they released the 2nd vault hunter pack increasing the level cap again, 61 was the peak of the game to 72 with op8.
It even had a really good ost, some jokes did make me laugh, the dedicated loot system is genuinely one of the most genius ideas to ever grace arpgs. You almost always run into an issue in diablo of “where do i go?” Because pretty much everything has the same drop chance but in bl2 every enemy and boss can still drop everything but every boss had an assigned special drop at a higher chance so you can target farm things makint their be like 70 farms unlike d2 which really only had like the pit, countess, and baal. No idea why bl3 killed this idea and no idea why it wasn’t instantly snatched up by every other game, i really liked a lot of the character designs, it had tons of style, I even the story which i played though a dozens times to level is pretty decent for what it is.
I never liked pre sequel or 3
I doubt 4 will be good

The funny thing about that is Wonderlands actually has a somewhat working endgame LOL. Chaos mode 50+ gets pretty hard and yet Borderlands is the easiest shooting game ever made. They seem to think anointed gear makes the game interesting when it’s all about a certain of playtime and then BOOM everything is facerollable. They somehow had magic with borderlands 1 and 2, I even think presequel is the best ones but they make these games so fucking easy now with minimal endgame.

The action skills have the same issue since 3. 90% of them is just get another weapon that deals more damage

You can use it to escape
You can use it to line up headshots with increased damage for sniping
You can use it chain melee
You can use it as a distraction to force a melee enemy to run towards thet area to line up a singularity grenade to stack all the mobs on top of each orher
You can use it to apply kunai for slag and increase damage from mark
Any of rafas skills in bl4
Pull out bigger weapon that does more damage
Bl 1/2 had very simple skills but pretty much all of them have several uses besides like bricks but he has a funny glitch that lets you perma run at 50% increased speed with it
Even gunzeker lets you mix and match gun effects or rocket jump for mobility or pop the full heal effect
