Seriously even with original ideas like the Plagas which had nothing to do with Umbrella it doesn't change the reality that the universe of Resident Evil now exists where even regular people know what BOWs are. So when you get characters like Ethan who inexplicably are ignorant and stupid in all matters about virus monsters despite international scandals it makes the characters dumb.

That's only one problem. The other one is Capcom has failed to make long standing compelling main characters to take the mantle of the franchise. Its funny but Mega Man, another Capcom series, never had this problem. Resident Evil is stuck on Chris and Leon and occasionally a new character like Ethan or Grace that doesn't really impress old fans and don't gain new ones.

Not even Wesker's Son became a popular character in the franchise despite the games leaving his story open to continue. If audiences don't care about your character then its going to be rough unless Capcom pulls a Nintendo and makes future RE protagonists mute like Mario or Link from Zelda. That means they can speak but inexplicably in all cut scenes they never communicate only sound effects like grunts.

Ada is the true villain of Resident Evil. All these companies like Tricell or Connections would never get anywhere with their monster experiments if Ada didn't sell to them the virus samples they need. Why the fuck did they not at least make spinoff games that stick with the controls and game mechanics as 4 and 5? I mean not being able to move when you are aiming, each hit either stuns a normal enemy for a split second or puts them into a stunned pain animation for melee, and a large focus on getting money to upgrade your stuff? 6 would be so much better if the bullets didn't just damage enemies and instead made them behave like 4 and 5 enemies, and if you got to slowly upgrade your individual guns. Hell I'd even take having to decide who gets which gun like in 5 if you can't get rid of the co-op in 6.

The Remakes of 2 and 3 also prove that they can do it in a more horror-focused way, and the RE4 Remake proves they can take that horror version and turn it back into an action game again. To me Revelations never felt quite right with the controls, but I know those had a much smaller budget and team than some of the others. It's just weird to me that they didn't see how ultra successful the gameplay loop of 4 was and decided not to capitalize on those with an Ada-esque spinoff for the hardcore arcadey-gameplay crowd, we could have been on a theoretical Ada or Hunk: 5 or 6 by now. Surely someone in Capcom is saying outloud "hey we sure have sold a lot of this one game across every single platform possible?"

It seems like a lot of people really liked RE 7&8 but I thought they were pretty mediocre FPS games. The PS1 games are still by far the best the series has to offer in my opinion. Wish we could get a new fixed camera/tank control game like the Gamecube remaster but I doubt that will ever happen.

What the fuck was that "gameplay" trailer? First of all the writing was terrible and that is really saying something considering it's an RE game, and the "gameplay" was about 7 seconds of holding W in a scripted sequence. Bros, if this game is a bunch of that scripted nonsense then it will suck ASS. RE4 remake was objectively pure kino with tight as fuck gameplay, and RE4 probably is the best paced action game of all time and even then the ONE forced walking segment where you carry Ashley sucks ass so much that I fear it on repeat playthroughs. I think this one may just well be slop.
