But Japanese stuff is more and more popular these days and there's generally not that many good games coming out right now. It's free, the anime is good, the girls are cute, and the game is surprsingly fun/complex.

You ever play any training style game and it can get you hooked. It's a combination of many things going for it. I think the western world does have like a genetic attachment to horses with how ingrained they were with people's lifestyles for thousands of years, so it doesn't surpise me that the horse girls + anime shit is appealing to people. It's very thoughtfully done. If you've ever watched some good sports animes, even if you don't care for the sport they can be quite good, you know? It's like that. It's a really good sports anime with the benefit of having cute horse girls and a really fun game on top of it.

They are direclty and clearly influenced by real horses down to every little trinket on their design, the color of their shoes, hair styles matching the markings of the horse, backstories of the characters matching the stories of the horse, relations/rivals matching the stories of the horse. It's that attention to detail that adds an extra layer of SOVL, it is extremely compeling and makes you want to learn more about the horses themselves, and it cycles back into self. Naturally, more people are tuning in to horse racing in general. It's a genius in its own way

I don't care to play some shitty hack and slash game that just has you doing the same two battles over and over again, switching between characters endlessly and watching the same canned cutscenes.

Horse races are dynamic, unpredictable, and an insane amount of customization in how you want to build your characters. Clearly a ton of thought went into how the races are designed, but also the characters themselves. So many of them with great stories, all drawing from the stories of real horses. Everything is done with intent. They're not just creating random vtuber shaped blobbed characters in some nonsensical setting. Everything is rooted in a world that is more realistic and familiar yet leans into fantasy just the right amount to make it seem like an entirely different world by having this alternative human species.

I'm just saying unlike other games of its type, it feels like Uma Musume just had way, way more thought put into the design. That goes a long way I feel, I don't think it's pure chance that this one was successful and many others didn't catch on. Something about the horse racing resonates with the west. Maybe it's because not that long ago we were all riding horses instead of cars, but surely there's more to it than that? It's hard to predict what's going to catch on with people or what wont, but it's been fun discussing VIDEO GAMES with you guys when the jannies allow video game discussion that is

There is like +20 horse girls that have their own niche, skill, and most importantly, at least 2 VN stories. One under Umamsume Stories and one in Career. Both show you their dream, their day to day life, and their training. In The Career mode, you personally watch them grow as a person. It has that choice that determine what stats, event, and choices you make that would impact their stats. Yeah it's one of those ancient "sports" that humans have been enthralled with for a long, long time, even if it's more of an antiquity these days. i was pretty into it in the beginning but once you realise how fucking long it takes to do your dailys in this game, it just saps the fun out of it imo
a career can genuinely take you up to 30 minutes minimum and from memory, 3 careers is what will deplete your stamina for the day
the game expects you to dedicate at minimum an hour everyday, where in comparison - with HSR once im done with the patch quest and event, im logging in for like 5 minutes to do my dailys

the stories are super cute, and i liked raising my horse girls and seeing them grow, and going on dates with them to the arcade and blah blah
but again, when it comes down to the gacha aspect where it expects you to play everyday, you're just spamming through mindless cutscenes and raising stats for upwards of 30 minutes to give a slight power boost to your legacy umas ... idk man, it just isnt engaging enough and i probably wont be going back to it

You can beat the story pretty easily with even poo poo cards that you got from freebies anon.
You just have to learn to play the game a little bit better, the story is really easy to complete. And once you have a set of cards you like you can just have an easy one fits size deck you put onto any umas, it doesnt take much work at all.

Huh, so Mejiro Ryan's career is that difficult? I was holding off later to beat it as she's one of the few I still have stuck at one star, and it seems there's a stamina check there. But still, I think it would be doable with the right planning. Obviously RNG is going to mean some runs are fucked regardless, but that's how must "roguelite" games are anyway. Some runs are just fucked, but once you get the hang of it it's really not that tricky to have consistent careers even on "difficult" umas. You just need to learn their quirks and what to build for. I fully believe you dont need tricked out MLB SSR shit to do that beyond just borrowing a Kitasan or whatever, which even that I dont think is mandatory to beat any story.

I'd say all the starter ones lean on the easier side, but surely you dont have to invest THAT much time as a newbie to figure out how to beat Mejiro Ryan's career? I wish more of them would. Most of the bongs actually do have theatre background and aren't part of some faggy voice actors union of talentless hacks. American voice acting is just mediocre but they demand a high fee and act like they're better than they are but they just arent. It's better than it used to be which isnt saying much, and some dubs aren't horrible, but most of the time they just feel very phoned in following the same cookie cutter template. At least with Japan I can hear whatever the real intention was behind the character's voice rather than some American's lazy interpretation of it. Brit voice actors tend to do a lot better at emoting those kinds of exagerrated actions but in a more natural and convincing way. I can still be done shitty though if they don't have the right direction. Sometimes it's just better to do without.

Have you heard the Southern Belle voice for Dahlia in Xenoblade 2? It's fucking horrible, one of the worst performances I've heard in a video game. I fall under this group. Dont play gachagames. Just tried it for fun and it hooked me. Always loved the few weird "training" games that exist and would always have been down to paly more like that. Was impressed by the world of Uma Musume and the passion that went into it. I also hadn't beenn watching anime for years and years and this one got me to watch it. The original airing of the show is so-so, but Cinderella Gray really is quite good as a standalone sports anime, as is the movie.

I've watched Kentucky Derby a few times and been vaguely interested, as well having worked around horses and been around people who ride horses but didn't take a direct interest in them till now. It's really fun to learn about the stories of all the horses, and the way they translate to the games is really clever and thoughtfully done. Just feels like there's more substance to it than a lot of games these days.

There is an Auto Skip function to skip all events. It is the first option. Even then you can get it done in 20 minutes.

The main reason is because not many like English Dubs. The only that do do it, is because they think they will have a wider audience, and by the end of the day it attracts the worst types of people. Idk, I got one during the super creek and trying it out on this Mejiro Ryan run. If I lose, I might hang it up as a trainer as with these cards there and her raised aptitudes there is no reasonable excuse I should fail. My Tazuna is only 0LB but I heard she can fix bad conditions and raise mood at the same time along with other stuff. Seems like she's much better at 1LB or MLB though.

She provides energy, mood, stats with her random events. If she shows up on training she lowers energy cost and increases stat gain. Once you get a certain random event with her she provides 5 uses of unique recreation. These give 30-50 energy, mood up, stats and 2nd and 4th uses remove bad conditions. So basically she removes a lot of rest RNG since that's at least 5 less rests per run.

I recommend not using her last recreation until URA Finale or so, hang on to it in case you get hit but random mood downs or bad conditions.

This is pretty much how I felt. Maybe I just didn't play long enough but my first impression was that it was confusingly complex in a way that didn't feel like an actual game. That's kind of my impression of most mobile gacha games though, the UI always gets to me.
