Whenever they do this it makes more money than the original because video games are more popular now and people can waste money on them without even playing them plus inflation and whatever other economic fuckery, so it looks like this is a very good idea.
It will release on steam anyways, which means that even if the amount of money the market would put towards this game was equal in both cases the developer will receive six times as much because nobody is buying a console to play it. It also cost virtually nothing to remaster.
On their balance sheet they will not see anything other than 500x the profit compared to when the game first released, regardless of how shit they make it, and then they will attribute that gain to having made it shit.
