It was originally a kickstarter stretchgoal expansion for Hollow Knight that blew up into a sequel. It was hyped up at the time because Hollow Knight was the second coming of christ, apparently. That hype stuck around through memes, but obviously it has to compete with a lot more indie metroidvanias today so we'll see how it goes.

has never been true. If half life 2 episode 3 released in 2010 or so it would have been well-received and been looked back on fondly now. But since it (or hl3, its replacement) hasn't released yet, it will never live up to the hype. It's going to suck. A delayed game might be good but could easily turn bad. Duke Nukem Forever as another example.

HK laid the foundations for Silksong (ideas, tilesets that were scrapped from the original, etc), they don't have to start from scratch, specially because Silksong didn't have an engine change like HK did. 2025 seems like a fair year to release, hell some people believe it should've released earlier because the 2019 trailer looked so complete.

It was a DLC but in 2019 it became a game so, as a game, it had 6 years of dev time

It's been so long I genuinely barely remember anything about hollow knight (played around it's release) besides some bosses (esp the last one cause that took me forever). Couldn't really explain what the story was either. Am I just old? I don't feel any hype for a sequel at all.
