i could fully forgive it being an average game. it's literally impossible for it to live up to expectations. the original was already a cursed mess that became a cult classic, and the development for this one is even more cursed.
over time, the expectations and fervour for the sequel became absurdly bigger than the success and merit of the game itself. which idk seems to be a typical millennial thing now, like getting hype for a star wars film when they haven't been good since 1983.

but all signs point to it not even being an average game, and not anything to do with the PnP, or any kind of RPG.
it's probably going to be a pretty dull AA "cinematic" narrative game with some railroaded voiced MC, spread out by some basic bitch stealth action hallways.
locking clans in the premium edition is a real red flag of cancer and desperation.

but i'm not eager to hate it. i don't really write of any game until it releases and i can take a look myself and decide if i want play it. it makes no difference to me. so i'll just wait and see.

Yes it is streamlined. Yes it it more "structured". But it looks outstanding. The writing is great. The music is great, including the cannibalized Rik Schaffer material. Deb is back. The combat has multiple distinct styles because of the clan disciplines to mix things up. I like that. I like everything I'm seeing. I like the submissive little Tremere strumpet. I like the sassy gay Nosferatu. I like Lou. I like Fabien. I liked Pandora until she got her head torn off.

The VN's are good, Coteries gives you 3 protagonists, Venture, Brujah and and Toredor, Shadows you play as a Lasomra and Reckoning you play as a Ravnos then as your Malkavian partner in the 2nd run,

You need to play the 3 games in order Coteries, Shadows, Reckoning since all three games share the same supporting casts and continuity.

The other modern games Blood Hunt, which is surprisingly still online is a failed Fortnite clone battle royal, it hasn't had an update in years but has an online lobby where I guess people still hangout and play vampire dress up with the myriad of character creation options.

There's a VR game I haven't played.

And the newest game to come out Swansong is a 3rd person point and click detective game, where you play as a Toredor, Malkavian and Venture in Boston investigating an attack on a Cammy peace treaty. It's all story and investigating with no real player involved combat whatsoever. If you like VTM for it's vampire politics you'll love Swansong.
