Elden Ring
This game is fun, but god damn does it bust my balls quite often. Currently got 2 great runes and am at level 99, but I still get my ass handed to me whenever I'm stuck fighting 2 bosses at once.

Dual bosses are really designed for you to use your Spirit Ash for. No point being honorable in a battle that is designed for you to have a buddy.

Sometimes it's better not to use lock on and instead manually control the camera when fighting multiple enemies

I'll usually send out a few guards, but they only distract them for a short amount of time before all dying to some AoE attack. Just beat the two giant gargoyle guys in the post-nuked Mistwood area and my only saving grace was that the 2nd guy didn't show up until I got the first one to half health.

Yeah, I've noticed this. I can't tell you how many times I've died because the lock-on was on the wrong guy. The option to free swing while locked on doesn't seem to work all the time.

>Pick a weapon that excels at spacing out my opponents
>Stand at the edge of the enemy's range and prepare a counter attack
>Enemy randomly ice skates forward with zero indication in their animation and hits me
Defend this.

Everything in this game is enemy specific. You don't get good at the game, you develop the ability to best each boss individually by learning their specific timings and bullshit. Luckily each boss has like 15 duplicates spread out on the map so you'll know how to get them next time.

You could always grind a few levels. Or use spirit ashes

It doesn't sound like you were outside the enemy's range, does it?

Also I should point out Level 99 is about right for being on your 3rd Great Rune. I think most people will clear the game in the level 150-200 range.

I'm excited to try more playthroughs of this. My current build is the brass shield (found it near the beginning and it's served me well ever since), my sacred katana, the clawmark seal for the occasional incantation, and a shortbow for when I just want to pick off enemies one by one. I know it's pretty simple, but it's served me extremely well. I do occasionally switch to Magma Wyrm Scalesword when fighting those Erdtree stumps. The special on that one does insane damage to them.

So we all agree that John Wylder is the best class in Nightreign right?
He has all the funniest tools and can use nearly all weapons
And it's also the "purist" souls class

Just enjoy your journey.
Most of the mixed discourse online is more about all the souls games context and how it developed in this last decade.
I'm one of the jaded ones but deep down Elden Ring is still an amazing game.

I use ashes on those to make them fair, it still possible, but I can't be bothered after the first run.

you got to mediocre skill level and then stopped improving

would a few level make a difference though?
you improve your damage less than 1% with each level

Most paired fights in this game are totally optional iirc. Pumpkin heads/abductor virgins/cleanrots is all about spacing, Crucible Knights can be cheesed with parries, and gargoyles can be killed one at a time if you pull the first towards the boss fog. Godskin duo is just about learning what moves can be strafed, and abusing the pillars just like in O&S. I 100% completed the game and never felt the need for ashes

All paired bosses (and the trio) got neutered in an early patch and now wait their turn to attack lol

That's the one required one to beat the game lol. You can cheese them if you found the recipe for sleep pots.

If early bosses make you cry, wait till you see late game and DLC bosses lol
