I don't like Xianxia as a genre mainly due to how disconnect the story usually is. The protagonists' motivation basically just to get stronger and the journeys are too "video game-like" for my liking. I much more prefer Wuxia which stories that tie to historical events. Or maybe because I grew up with Wuxia and not Xianxia

You either get complete scrubs or people playing their fucking ass off since they usually come with enough disadvantages that you need to work around, at least in more traditional 2D fighters. They haven't been able to make one yet and it would need to be a mix of something like Blade and Soul (for the active combat), Runescape (for the grind parts) and Dynasty Warriors (for the mob battles) to have a proper Cultivation feel. Boss battles should be something akin to Devil May Cry boss battles.
