2 is too formulaic >beat some chambers >advance to another location >beat some chambers >advance to another location >repeat
I know its difficult to make the progression more organic and their engine is partly to blame, they need to load shit every chamber or less, if they implemented seamless asset loading/unloading without load screens they would have made it perfect

It's a nice simple puzzle game with fun banter. Sadly went hugely memetic so there were people loving or hating it over stupid memes instead of the game's actual qualities

I replayed it after 15 years recently. It's just way too easy if you have any experience with puzzles. Still nice atmosphere though and it's not reddit like 2.

Feels clunky compared to Portal 2, if you played them backward (like I did). Definitely a landmark title. You can't have amazing overgrown Portal 2 levels without Portal.

It was a running joke about GlaDOS treating test subjects like rats in a maze with cake as the skinner box reward. It was mildly funny in context and I don't see any evidence they were trying to turn it into the mass viral idiocy it became

There is no marvel tier quip humor in it. In particular the talking core in 2 entirely ruined the the athmosphere by never shutting up and constantly making "well that just happened" style jokes. The humor in 1 was more subtle and leaned much more into the creepy malfunctioning AI theme, while in 2 you have glados turning into a fucking potato.

This feels like a new interpretation if you ask me. I don't remember anyone having a problem with the humor on release or when it was the zeitgeist. Only after reading some wojak charts has the poster base of 4chan decided what to hate. If you don't like don't play it. The worst shitposts are coming into discussion or enjoyment threads and saying "well actually I hated it because it is Reddit and Reddit is bad". I think I'm more disappointed in this style of posting because it's finally clicked with me how much of a faux pas it is and how I used to do it myself, in person.
Want You Gone > Still Alive
Also Glados had another song for the end of Lego Dimensions which is just nuts to me because that never came officially to PC.

misplaced self improvement posturing
back in the late 90s early 00s long before i knew of 4chan i hated this type of humor being injected into established series because it felt childish and pandering even though i was a child it was just too on the nose and put me off

Jesus why are you getting so emotional? I don't "hate" the game. I don't like the style of humor. There are other parts about it I enjoyed. No, I don't play the game because I already played it a decade ago and I had the same opinion then. I don't really give a shit about what the zeitgeist was at the time, one can have a different opinion to the majority.

Well I didn't say the humor it used was overplayed, I said it was not good and a step back compared to the first one, which is a statment that applies regardless of the year.
