extremely off topic but there are two main things going on right now regarding "democracy failing":
1 - multiple blue and red states are actively and openly attempting to rig congressional elections through gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Yes, a small one with safeguards keeping it limited to swinging representation by one or two congressmen. Those safeguards are gone. Texas is trying to turn entirely red, using redistricting to swing congress by 12 reps. California is trying to turn entirely blue, using redistricting to swing congress by 8 reps. Other states are following in their wake. That is fundamentally a destruction of representative government.
2 - Trump has illegally taken over Washington DC with an occupying military force and has expressed a desire to do the same to any city he dislikes. It doesn't get any less democratic than using force to supercede the duly elected local government.
