It's not cozy, it's stuffy and loud as fuck. As if having upstairs neighbours wasn't bad enough, now their practically your bunkmate. You'd hear people constantly walking outside your pod making you on edge at all times. If you could fit the pod into a secluded living situation like this, then it would be comfy.

These look clean and nice, but they're literally overnight hotels. I think this can work, provided it's clean, has a charge that is reasonable to keep out the riff-raff. This shit works more in places like Japan where everyone follows rules and don't leave trash everywhere. The second you put that up in a major American city, some schizo is going to shit in the bed and refuse to leave.

The new DX games' pods are taken from the real life Japanese Capsule pods. A lot of cybberpunk dystopia is assuming everything is going to turn into Hong Kong or Tokyo.

The idea of Los Angeles in Blade Runner is that it's a cramped mega-city of tens of millions since most of the earth is not habitable anymore. So they're all cramped on each other, with slums, and building on top of old buildings.

They would be great if you could have them in cities like SF/London and cost something like $20 a month. It would be fun to have one of these in many cities in the world even if they stayed 99% of the time empty.

Unfortunately in reality they'd likely price them at $250 a week. (Which would still count as "cheap" compared to any room/hotel but quite a bit above my "just have some for the lols" price)

Well theoretically you would have third spaces for people to spend their time in and the capsule component would just be for sleeping.
Like a park, a cafe, an arcade, a library, whatever.
Realistically the third spaces would get paved over within a few years and turned into more high density housing.

I want to make a city builder somewhat inspired by this. Small usable area so it needs to develop upward and downward. Have a happiness metric so the player needs to balance citizen access to daylight. Light structural simulation constraining how high you can go, a little randomness letting a player temp disaster by building past the safety factor.

I see it going to either end of technology. Some medieval fantasy setting with mines and workshops and cesspits underground, stone and wood towers reaching into the sky. Or a sci-fi setting with industry and life support underground and habitation and research above.

Yep. Cooking is cool but when you're in a real city like that it feels more like just a hobby you're not doing, not a life necessity that you're missing out on. I currently have a nice house of my own with a solid kitchen, but sometimes I miss the apartment I had in Saigon that had fucking great street food all over it's block and plenty of great restaurants within five minutes scooter distance.

Having a private bathroom is really, really nice though. I don't care where I'm moving to, going back to a dorm type shared bathroom would be a disgusting fate.

>you will own nothing and be happy
>somehow this is a bad thing
Why? I don't know about you naive fools but as someone who owns and has owned many things, owning things SUCK BALLS!!! You've gotta fix em and take care of em and maintain em and it's just constant bullshit and stress and misery to own things. A house? A car? A bicycle? Fucking anything you own eventually ends up owning YOU!!!

If you can just rent or share everything, you will be happy! Because you will have less responsibilities and less BULLSHIT in your day to day life. You don't have to worry about putting fuel in your car or changing the oil or buying new tires or replacing the thermostat for the 3rd fucking time or anything like that. You just order a car when you need one, no problem, smooth sailing. And don't even THINK about the costs of owning your own fucking house and land! Nothing but constant stress and money flying out the window! You end up working just to KEEP THE THINGS YOU HAVE which kinda makes you a big fat bitch to those things.

If I owned nothing, I WOULD be happy! Owning things sucks! It would be better for everyone if we owned nothing at all and just shared the things we needed.
