Like I've seen all the videos of people getting run over, but it seems like if you keep your wits about you and you know the language, it's actually a lot more free than the US. You can probably talk about most things you want to talk about as long as you don't leave a record of complaining about the CCP. I remember being a kid/teenager thinking not being able to complain about my government would be so awful and repressive, but in my blue city the amount of self-censorship I have to do around race, sexuality, women, etc. is more than I'd ever imagined I'd have to do for a repressive government. I'm not even a chud either, I'm mostly on the progressive side. But if I imply a scantily dressed girl is dressed that way because she likes the male attention I'd get called into HR and lose my decent paying job.
