I love Donkey Kong Bananza. For all I care, they could not give an explanation for why Cranky is old and Pauline is young. It wouldn't be the first time they made a retcon in the Mario universe.

Lady and Jumpman are not Pauline and Mario but Pauline's grandma and either a relative of Mario or someone completely unrelated. That fixes every inconsistency outside of Donkey Kong 94.
