Multiplayer games aren't scary. If you think they're scary, you're just scared of other people. When you meet people in games, you can at least kill them. When you meet them on 4chan, it's a lot worse.

Like imagine a board full of people who make threads that you filter all day for years. If you could beat them to death with a hammer, you wouldn't have to filter threads all day. So yeah, that's the appeal of multiplayer.
