Children will grow up one day. Caim was simply thinking ahead.

Why do I love Caim so much despite him being a mute psychopath?
Anonymous No.718632786 >>718634883
Reminder that they're actually just demons pretending to be children. They even have green scales and cackle and go "muhahaha we fooled you!" towards the end. Drakengard really pulls a lot of its famous punches.

Y'know according to the lore Leonard never actually touched anyone. He realized what he was and basically exiled himself to live alone in the forest until his parents sent his little brothers to live with him to escape the war. After which he got hot and bothered and left them alone to go jerk off in the woods right before the empire showed up.

He feels like an extremely raw, rough-cut character. Like, he doesn't seem like he was polished up to be served up to and sold to the masses. He's a bloodthirsty lunatic who revels in murder and bloodshed, he eagerly kills innocents and "innocents" on his way to objectives that usually just relate to his own hatred, and his party is also full of equally questionable """heroes""". It's really rare we have someone who was put out, as a full character, whose genuine greatest act of humanity was to fall in love with a dragon and do what he could to protect her or put her painlessly out of her misery while he took his rage out on everybody else.

I thought it was commentary on silent protags in videogames that usually kill in the thousands.
Caim is set up like a traditional hero with a dragon companion but he's a utter psychopath and only ever incidentally heroic

Don't feel like depriving him of his voice was necessary.

Everyone who makes a pact loses the thing they value most. For Furiae it was her womb because she was obsessed with children. For Inuart it was his ability to sing, since he was a bard by trade. For Verdelet it was his hair, which seems like nothing at first glance but it's really foreshadowing for what a vain and shallow person he ends up being. Caim loses his voice - he's a prince, he's literally bred to shout orders to command armies, and he loses the one thing that allows him to do so, which forces him to abandon his nobility and head onto the frontlines himself like a common soldier. This is an intentional nod to silent protagonists in gaming as >>718635974 said, Cavia purposefully invented a protagonist who would have a lore friendly reason to be silent throughout the game because Taro wanted to include a commentary on silent protagonists.

my points already sort of been said by other anons, but his voice was the one thing that connected him to other people. his words helped him keep that noble prince facade up, but without them, the mask slips off and he has no way of convincing people that he's anything more than a blood thirsty psycho anymore.

>he eagerly kills innocents
Caim never killed anyone innocent. The worst he had done was kick an elf that was in his way out of frustration when hearing the grave news about his sister being even more permanently fucked up. I do agree that he's a raw character, but he's nowhere near as edgy and psycho as people make him out to be.

Drakengard is the Death Grips of videogames. It's solely the refuge of jaded thirty-somethings who want desperately to see something new in their hobby of choice, no matter how shit it is. There are a million other vidya out there that will interest you more. Come back to Drakengard as a last resort when all other avenues of creativity are exhausted.

Because, despite being a child-murdering violence-happy dragon-fucking psychopath, he is also genuinely the most normal and reasonable person in this incredibly dumbfuck mentally ill nightmare dystopia. He is the only character to actually recoil and show concern over something, and it's a pretty reasonable one given it's his sister begging to fuck him.

She made a mutual agreement with Michael, not a pact. She makes a pact with Mikhail in endings B and E, paying the price of adulthood and reverting to a child. We can only make assumptions on a pact mark since loli Zero is never seen

Caim's lust for murder ultimately comes from seeing the people he cares about be harmed and killed. His murderous rage is both his coping mechanism and his solution to the problem. But despite this, he doesn't get lost in murder, he always continues to put the safety of those he cares about in priority. This is also why Angelus makes such a good companion to him, she reminds him of what he needs to protect, and is also someone Caim comes to want to protect beyond the reason of their shared life. It's the humanity behind Caim's murderous rage that makes him such a compelling protagonist. Also it's really fun to have a protagonist who just unapologetically murders his way through his problems.

People say the gameplay is supposed to be bad on purpose, but wouldn't it make more sense for the gameplay to be fun so we can enjoy the killing on the same level Caim does? That way the reprimands and horror actually fits better?

I think people tend to overexaggerate how bad the gameplay is. The aerial sections tend to be pretty fun, the ground sections aren't good but they aren't complete dogshit either. There are some truly horrendous PS2 games that put Drakengard to shame.
