This game has role playing. Final Faggotry does not. What is so hard for Japs to get about that? Do the words role and playing not translate over there? Do they think it just means rolling dice or something?

This game has two roles. Shooty McGunman and Smashy Stickums. FF is more of a role playing game.
Back in my day actual role playing games, not these scripted digital experiences, weren't about talking to NPCs. They were about delving into dungeons and fighting monsters

The thing I find funny is japan changed their entire approach to video game design when they played skyrim, suddenly linear turn-based combat was out the fucking window within a generation, now it's all open world flashy combat bullshit and they have to choke that shit down, 30 years later final fantasy 7, "the best jrpg ever made" is almost done being remade and has nothing in common with the gameplay of it's origin

RPGs are an interesting genre because I feel like more than most others two people can want to play them for almost entirely different reasons, and inevitably get upset when they try one that doesn't provide what they were looking for.
Some people play for the fluff; the lore, the worldbuilding and narrative, interacting with characters and making decisions.
Some people are here for the crunch; the battling, the numbers, the grinding.
I think either is fine, but some games will lean heavily towards one over another, so I can see why somebody might hate an RPG others enjoy.
This is also why /vrpg/ is such a volatile board, always degenerating into East vs West flamewars.

All that matters is the DREAM.
Games where you can kill nearly whoever you want weren't abundant back then and there aren't enough now.
Were a lot of the characters flagged as essential? Yes. The game just paved the way for a better game letting you do just that, making people jizz themselves for a decade and a half.
Jeets might shit on New Vegas with troonposting but I'm eternally grateful to Fallout 3 for helping to lay the groundwork.

A lot of Fallout 3 is stupid and doesn't make any sense when you think about it, (that godawful vanilla ending) but the game part of the game is just fine. It and Vegas back to back are a wonderful time.
