Buy a telescopic controller for your phone instead. There's extremely solid choices with hall effect sticks and triggers starting from like 40 bucks from GAME SAAAAR and 8bitdo.

* Anbernic 40XXH (or CubeXX if you want 3:2)
* Trimui Smart Pro
* Anbernic 35XXSP/Miyoo Flip V2 (for flippan)

I totally get the appeal of a neat looking device purpose-built for handheld emulation, but it's pretty wasteful and reddit consoomerist to buy a whole new device just for emulation. >>718636507 is right, even though Gamesir has a stupid ass name, their controllers are pretty competently made for their prices. If you're a normal adult, you have a phone with a display and hardware that are more than good enough for emulation. My S24 can handle NGC no problem and the Galileo G8 Plus has been pretty solid besides not connecting to my obscure Lenovo tablet.

>>718641536
What's this though and does it come with a stylus? That would beat phone emulation easily

Do not do it dude, that shit is so ugly, cheap and most importantly, unergonomic. You will hate yourself if you actually play twin stick games. If you insist on this form factor just get one without sticks or get a more capable horizontal handheld. Yes vertical handhelds have a nostalgic quality but they are strictly less comfortable and good only for short sessions

Phones are for work and networking, games have no place taking up your battery/storage with all those hundreds of gigs worth ROMs. They're not designed for portable gaming and chinkhelds are the ONLY answer.

The thing is it's not too expensive. Something like $40 and I'm not looking to substitute it for an RP5 (which I'm planning on buying on Black Friday). I'm just looking for something cheap and neat looking to pass the time until I get that RP5.

That being said if there any more capable devices around the same price range that are vertical I would love to hear your recs. I've heard of the R36S which is even cheaper but idk it sounds kinda scammy, I'm still waiting on my next paycheque to make my choice.

These things are kneecapped phones anyways anon. If you're that adamant you can buy a phone exclusively for emulation.
The Odin 2 is the highest end of chinky retro handhelds and for the same 350 bucks it costs you can get a Poco F7 with a snapdragon 8 gen 4 processor that's 2 gens newer, 12gb of ram and a controller.
These handhelds fail to keep up with phones.

Too large.

RP5 or Odin 2 Mini are the perfect things in the market right now and they're perfectly priced below their garbage smartphone counterparts.

Double screen chinky handhelds is gonna be the new meta. That's the thing they will excel at because you can't play that on your phone.
For anything else assuming you got a phone in the last couple years and isn't dogshit like the Samsung A line of phone whatever you got is probably better than most handhelds out there.

That's straight up reddit consoomer speak. I got a computer in my pocket good enough to emulate Burnout 3 Takedown at 4x scaling and that's all I need. I'm not going to spend 300 bucks on a device to do something I can already do.

RG34XX is 1:1 a GBA. If you like how a GBA feels to hold it's great, just note that L and R are not clicky like the OG but a long squish. The downside is that you will have to open up the system and apply tape on the d-pad contacts because it is easily the worst d-pad I have ever used in my entire life and false diagonals when looking at it at all.
