I think mirrors edge is one of those games in that era that incaptured that vibe perfectly

It may have been related to 60s nostalgia since the 60s had a summery vibe with hula hoops and the Beach Boys. 60s nostalgia seemed to be big in the 2000s with the mod revival and all the spies and secret agents in pop culture (Rouge in Sonic, Spy Kids, Austin Powers, Charlie's Angels, XXX, Kim Possible, Totally Spies, Perry the Platypus in Phineas & Ferb)

You can still theme your Windows/Linux into frutiger and enjoy old games or even vibe like if it's 2011. Or go even further and theme it into "classic"
