I hate vanity slots, the result is that you pick one armor set you like and then only ever use that one. I like the limitation of trying to find gear that suits both build and aesthetics

I'm not running around with the Balder armor set in Dark Souls for the stats.
Anonymous No.718637726 >>718637972 >>718641534 >>718643115
Would it make sense or feel as good for stats to (mostly) be offloaded to other items or systems so that you don't have this sort of thing or rely on goofy transmog systems? When I think of it, it kind of seems weird that so many powerful magical stats come from stuff like pants and hats anyway, but I guess where else would it make sense for the stats to be, what kind of items would it make sense and feel good to grind for etc?

>I like the limitation of trying to find gear that suits both build and aesthetics
And honestly I think there's some merit to this.

There is ingenuity in limits. Some vidya developers tend to forget that. You can cut the stats of the cool helmet by 50% and I'll still use it

By looking better, I will like my character more, and want to win harder. Thus I will play better and so the cool helmet is far, far superior even numerically to the basic helmet.

Never fucking happened.
I always have to use a game's gear swapping options to stay in something more reasonable as I progress and my armor starts looking like some faggy mess of frills, spikes, padding, and needless accessories.

At least for magic stats I think rings would be cool especially if you could use all 10 fingers or maybe even lose them like in Dungeons of Blood and Dream. You could also use tattoos, attachments to a wand, or hell, have buffs straight up be memorized. I think more games should lean into magic trinkets, having gems/amulets/rings be your main source of stat boosts instead of armor sets. They should also pull a Bloodborne and have a single suit of armor with no real use and a description making fun of it. I really just want a game where you play as an irresponsible wizard.

Oh they also did the memorizing Caryll runes for some buildcraft so that's a good point too. Jewelry/trinkets/gems are all good ideas, also makes me think now of charms in games like Diablo II or Last Epoch where in the former you make the decision on how much inventory space to sacrifice for magical buffs, or the latter you have a dedicated space for them separate from your inventory but you're more limited on your loadout based on their shapes and sizes (AFAIK I haven't played LE).

assuming I can't also use a shield with the one handed fast sword then what is the dps difference? Because you can have a higher attack rate due to the fast sword being faster but if it isn't fast enough then the resulting damage in a given second might be less than the slow sword.

Transmog and cosmetic only equipment is a shortcut used when you are too underfunded or incompetent to have good art design and a full level list of equipment.

A game made by like 20 people that has only a couple of armor sets that can't stylistically mix together but a need for 10x the equipment for their game design that kind of thing can be forgiven. When you're Todd Howard or Rockstar or just anything BBB or above that means you suck and your game is bad.
