Battle for bikini bottom is much better. Movie games is good too but the level design and atmosphere just don't hit the same way. I'll give it better Patrick gameplay but it's at the loss of Sandy.

These shovelware games had absolutely no right being as good as they were. It's hard to think of many modern releases that can compete.

I was too old for spongebob at that time but it kinda blew my mind to see Battle get a remaster I thought this entire time it was licensed slop that plagued that gen at that time.

There are no middle of the road devs making platformers like this. Bigger studios are making the next soulslike and undies are are making rogue lite deck builders. The immense chasm left between is the modern gaming industry.

I always preferred BFBB's more open style. I helps that it isn't plagued with a million sliding and burger driving levels.

I didn't know you could upgrade your abilities until the first Dennis boss fight. Only got a hint because of how absurdly hard it was.

If the movie game had a few more platforming levels, I'd consider it more on par with BFBB

It's also got those shitty driving segments though.

This game literally had one song that played for like 90% of the maps.

There's like 3 of each at fair points throughout the game. It's not that many but I guess if they're not your thing and your progression is blocked by them then it sucks. The sliding stages were pretty well done. Nothing as good as Sandy's dream but better than kelp forest and most of the sand mountain slopes.
I remember the car being fun but I honestly haven't played it in almost 20 years.

Revenge of the Flying Dutchman had such a desolate, empty atmosphere during certain sections of the game that unnerved me as a kid. Probably due to how low-budget it was. I still remember having fun with it though.

The movie game is alright but it's lacking the humor since it's pretty close to the movie
Driving sections were ok, combat was a minor step up even if we lost a character, but platforming was worse

Haven't played the Movie game a long while, but I remember half the levels being gimmicky slide and driving levels. Also a collectible glitched on me and wouldn't register, but it's been like 10 years so I can't recall exactly what the bug was. BFBB was a lot funner.
>>718640576
Meh, I thought it was pretty mediocre. Recently did a full playthrough for the first time in 20 years and wanted to see if it’s fun like BfBB and it just wasn't.
If you play this shit, make make sure to do it on GameCube. I played on PS2 with OPL and the game crashes every other loading screen https://youtube.com/watch?v=1WOJfgUobXI
Another fucked up thing is there’s no progression or unlockables for collecting everything. And if you save in the final area of the game which also has required collectibles, you end up stuck there with no way to return to previous areas.
Probably would have had a better experience if it didn’t constantly crash and it had literally anything for getting each coin and jellyfish

I'm in the minority of people who prefer movie, but it's a really narrow preference almost to liking both equally. While I do agree with >>718640576 in that it really should have more platforming stages I think the driving and sliding stages are pretty fun in their own right and I really like that they played more with enemy formations compared to BFBB and despite being a movie tie-in did reference that game a couple times.
>>718644602
iirc apparently it was actually gonna be around the same game, they just had to shoehorn in the truth or square name to tie into the special.

It's a decent little collectathon. First play the original if you haven't, since the remake has weird graphical changes. Xbox version is the best, but the other console versions are fine. The PC and GBA versions are completely different games.

The Simpsons game (PSP version) was also good. Console version is okay too but a bit bloated IMO.

>combat was a minor step up even if we lost a character
just from playing the game a lot and playing a few mods it surprisingly has a bit of depth with its enemies and how even more basic enemies like foggers or slammers can become pains depending on what enemies back them up, even if upgraded sponge bowl/sonic wave/cartwheel takes care of most threats in a single hit.
>flingers either change which spot they go to every time they attack, or every second attack
>spinners can act as literal shields to other enemies if close enough, meaning they won't take damage unless you hit the spinner
>planktopolis foggers are just straight up faster in the third combat challenge for no reason
>unused popper AI that only shoots 5 bullets, probably intended for a scrapped goofy goober stage

There was another Spongebob game for gamecube, one thing I remember was that you 'raced' Squidward to work with him walking at a snail's pace and if you actually waited and let Squidward get to work first a different cutscene at the Krusty Krab played.
