I still remember how every big Hollywood movie would release an accompanying WMP skin for some reason. That time is already here. I've played Fire Emblem Heroes since it's release almost 9 years ago. I've ventured into threads and seen people be nostalgic for playing the game in middle school.
There is the shitpost about how games transformed wildly from the 2d era to the 3d era from around mid 90s to mid 2000s compared to the past 10-15 years. With all the live service models going on and how some of them like fortnite have lasted 10 years, they won't be nostalgic for older games, they'll be nostalgic for older versions of games.

yeah probably literally the same situation, i was just on the tail end of xp before it went to vista, so to me vista was the big bad "they ruined it" moment for me. it was probably okay.

Even though I never owned an Xbox, I always loved the way its menu screens looked, and especially the weird sound effects that had a chance of playing (I never knew about those until a few years ago). It makes the menu screens seem less like a menu and more like a 'place' or something like that. I wish modern consoles did that, strong themeing and burying weird easter eggs and things like that in their menus, treating them like they're a piece of magical technology. It really helps give the console a brand identity (along with exclusive games), something all the major consoles have gradually lost over time. I still can't believe how the Switch has such a bland menu despite being probably the most creative console hardware-wise in a long time. GUI and UX designers need to step the fuck up.
