Isn't the X series more of a sandbox instead of RPG like Evochron? Always thought those games appeal to the people who got into Discovery instead of the actual single player.

city builders have been replaced with colony sims which are superior
ARPGs have always been hit or miss like it or hate it kinda thing. The genre is filled with screen clearing slop and lacks difficult end game boss fights outside of POE and Grim Dawn
no idea what freelancer is. isnt there a bunch of indie space sims like starsector etc. pardon my ignorance
