Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is my favourite Dark Souls game. I played it last year, having played Dark Souls: Remastered the year before that, and then I played Dark Souls III earlier this year. The atmosphere is perfect, it feels like a dream, like you are losing your grip on reality, on who you are and what you are doing, it really makes you feel like you are going Hollow. The gameplay is excellent, slow paced, deliberate, strategic, facing and positioning matters like in no other game in the series. There is immense weapon and spell variety, tight hit boxes, intelligent enemies, and complex combat scenarios that are incredibly fun to fight through. The game is ginormous, with tons of bosses and enemies and yet somehow never gets stale or old, each new area is new and fresh. The exploration is top notch, as there are so many nooks and crannies with hidden stuff, so many switchbacks and turnbacks and shortcuts, so much environmental interaction everywhere. Also, while DS2 is not as polished as DS3, it does feel more finished and complete than DS1.
