Touhou is decent. Sometimes great. Cho Ren Sha is also great. I think the boring guys are the ones who play Touhou and nothing more, but it's also boring to play nothing more than CAVE. Cute 'Em Ups are a whole subgenre with games like Cotton and Twinkle Star Sprites, the latter of which the Phantasmagoria titles took a lot from.
I also think EoSD itself is just ugly as fuck even for Touhou. While it's sometimes regarded as the best Touhou game I don't think many players actually share the sentiment. It's just represented in almost all fan material so everyone knows the cast.

Thanks! And ye don't rush it, for me it was simply finding one good stone and then using it to unlock everything else.
My first run or two also failed but then i did Marisa/shinto wind run which succeeded.
Then I slapped that stone onto focused shot and did Scarlet Devil so I can unlock that and slap in on passive so shinto is even more powerful, after that it was a breeze.
This game kinda has that UM feeling that it becomes easier the more you unlock.

I swear everyone who says Touhou is just too overwhelming or autistic has never actually played it. I tried to play some other shmups after getting bored of Touhou, and Jesus fuck, in every single one that I tried there were technically less projectiles but they were so fast and the screen so fucking cluttered that I just kept dying bcause I could barely even fucking see what was being shot at me. It took significantly more effort and practice for me to get good at those games than it did for me to get good at Touhou.
