I don't really care about it being a feature in some games, especially if you can learn from the trial and error. What i can't tolerate is game design similar to Dishonored (and sequel) where 90% of your gameplay IS the trial and error and map meta knowledge. Add to that being a stealth game from first person perspective and it's just a recipe for save scum hell.

Hitman games are quintessentially dishonest unless they're tackled blind with perma-death on.
The more times you repeat a level the closer it gets to tranny speedrunning instead of playing an assassin.
