I think some explanations were redundant: the diminished powers could already have been put on the state of being just awakended from torpor. Fabien surviving existed with the old optional diablerie rules.
That said from what we've seen, the mark:
- prevents the nomad from leaving the play perimeter (I'm a sucker for those narrative justifications of gameplay limitations)
- Is tied to a city-wide ritual of other marks who, when found raise the PC's vigor.
- could be the reason why fabien is still active within.
- seems to be the reason why some powers are muted at the start.
- I'm thinking ties both to The Gardener and his cult.

Seems entirely possible Fabien is going to be the grain of sand in the big plan. Or his diablerie could have been part. Honestly, at that point I'm eager to play.
I don't have hopes it' s going to be a great RPG, but if the game is solid enough for a couple playthroughs with decent story variations, I'll be happy enough.

The whole 'diablerized soul lives on in your head' would have made a lot more sense if it was the other way around; Unconquered Soul mostly applies to ancients and those with particularly strong wills. Initial speculation was about Fabien eating a sleeping elder and them taking over.
It's arguably nitpicking but there's just a lot of nonsense from the get go so god knows how bad the rest can be since odds are it's heavily frontloaded.
As for replayability, with all clans effectively sharing combat abilities then any chance of that will stem from choices you make...which if the lacking RPG elements are anything to go by will be paltry.

Unless V5 updated the diablerie rules and I missed it, no. There's no relationship whatsoever between the generation of the diablerist, his victim's, and the power of a leftover soul fragment. The rules themselves don't stipulate anything, and we don't lack exemples of diablerie in the setting that left no trace despite gen difference.

I dig the modern day Seattle in Christmas atmosphere of the game, the soundtrack is also nice. I know Schaffer is gone but let's face it, the first game was a thing of its era and its no longer 20 years ago. I love the first game to death despite its shortcomings but I'm glad the new devs aren't try to replicate it.
That being said I'm not really sold on the railroaded approach this one has. The lack of a proper skill system that is based on the tabletop character sheet means there won't be any "skill" checks for dialogue or other stuff, which can reduce the replayability greatly. In the first game you can pick a Ventrue and put points into your social and dominate, so you can pass speech checks and whatnot. I don't know if you can do that as Ventrue now.
