Is getting one of those or an Saturn as a 1999 boomer worth it? I already have an PS1-2 and the handhelds of that era.

It's not for you, zoomer.

Why no just emulate it.
I beat a rayman game earlier this year the emulation was pretty good.

The youngest boomers are in their 60's.

You can just emulate DreamCast the DC software and hardware was simple. So the games run perfectly

There are literally no "perfect" dreamcast emulators lol

but then you don't get to use the best memory card ever made

If you can appreciate UMVs, that’s pretty much the only tactile reason to actually own one. That and if you actually still have a disc drive you can play burned games.

both are easy to emulate these days
and if you want the authenticity there are bootloader peripherals for both
many of the Saturn's best games were left in Japan but they've been getting translated in recent years
Dreamcast has lots of fun and unique games like Jet Set Radio (though the PC version is better)

so imo it'll come down to the controller. Do you like little plastic nubs in the middle of the buttons, serving no purpose save to hurt your thumb? If yes, Dreamcast

there are actually a number of VMU emulators

If you don’t like arcade style games don’t bother, it’s not for you. I personally love arcades and it’s one of my favorite consoles since it has a large amount of that. Also the standard controller is pretty bad and uncomfortable so you may need to get adapters or third party controllers.

Don't bother unless you plan to mod it(at this point just emulate)
They are unreliable and can die as soon as you get them outta box
Library is kinda okay but it's really small compared to ps1-2
Controllers feel good to hold but eh

the controller is perfectly serviceable and they've aged fine, it's not like using an N64 con in current year

its not for zoomers, you weren't there, you'll never be there, you can't appreciate the games, and you only want to play it because some e-celeb or social media post told you to. Just leave it alone and go back to peak.

An overwhelming majority of the good Saturn games are Japanese-exclusive, so unless you can read nip or the game you want to play was lucky enough to get an English fanslation, you're shit out of luck. Very few worthwhile games officially made their way west that were exclusive or even just the best on Saturn.

Dreamcast is the better system but also many of the popular games are easily available elsewhere. Saturn has a lot of exclusives but they are stupidly expensive.
For me, I would go with the Dreamcast and the fishing controller.
