fun fact the haranir were supposed to be part of TWW but it was cut after metzen came back and pushed the worldsoul saga idea

after undermine we were supposed to go to the rootlands and meet the haranir, and in the following patch beledar was going to turn purple permanently. there would be stairs from the priory that let you walk into beledar

TWWs original ending was supposed to be about facing the missing 5th old god inside beledar (hinted at with the nerubian mural) with xalatath stealing its power after we weaken it. she was attempting to siphon its power when alleria broke the dark heart

it was the old god of the nerubians in azj-kahet, but they rebelled and after a huge war they imprisoned it inside beledar. all the black blood originally came from the war with that god, but it was retconned into the blood of the other old gods (how does that make sense? how did yshaarj and yogg blood drain so far away???)

anyway this was replaced with the karesh and dimensius storyline. karesh/manaforge was supposed to be the 12.1 raid. the end result is the same - xal has the power she needs to start the midnight expansion

It's just weird to me. Karesh feels like Midnight material and entirely out of place in TWW. Undermine sticks, it's underground and fits with the expansion. Netherstorm 2.0? Why? Even one of the new Midnight zones looks like Karesh.

they have had so many cool races to choose from yet they keep doing "alternate" versions or straight up furry bait races.

there was a new class in development codenamed Voidblade but it was scrapped, and some of it was repurposed for that new demon hunter spec

not the first time that has happened... tinkers were in development back in cataclysm but they pulled the plug on that to push monks instead to fit the next expansions theme

then they decided to add Demon Hunters in Legion, so the tinker was pushed back again. fun fact the bombs used by survival hunter after the rework were one of the abilities we created for the tinker

tinker was SUPPOSED to be part of battle for azeroth, with all the goblin and gnome/mechagnome stuff it was a perfect tie-in, but they were worried about adding too many classes too quickly so it has been sitting on the shelf since then.
i think part of the reason it was cut was because the tank spec used a mech suit but it was supposed to be unique for each race that used it. there would be a goblin mech suit, a gnome mech suit, a draenei mech suit, a blood elf mech suit, etc. like a druid form, but that required a lot of time from the art team

another class in development was the Warden... but that was cut in favor of the demon hunter. a lot of the Warden kit was repurposed into demon hunter - jails, sigils, chains, etc. are all from the Warden

it used to work like that... the entire monk class was designed by just ONE person, with the art and animations done by another 1-2 people

but now blizzard is a fuckhuge company and the WOW team in particular is enormous. nothing just gets done like that any more. everything goes through a committee and approvals and its a mess
one of the main reasons WOD was such a disaster was because we needed to re-integrate the project titan people back into the WOW team. most of them were originally WOW devs but they had not worked on WOW since before WOTLK launched and they needed to be trained on all the new tools we created to work on cata/mop... this is why cata was unfinished, too by the way - the new tools were great but they rolled out too late

a lot of new teams were developed and middle management was added everywhere to facilitate the new structure. it paid off and legion was a massive success... but we lost a lot of good talented passionate people after that though :(

i cant blame them for leaving, western california is a shithole and having these nagging talentless diversity hire cunts telling you that "youre doing art wrong" is demoralizing as hell

have you noticed all the scythes being added to the game lately? voidblade was supposed to be an agility class that used a 2h staff/polearm

it used the cosmic void, not the shadow void. signature attack was like the big scything cone smash attack that argus used, looked really cool
it was a combination of melee and range, sort of like an evoker.
there was a melee attack that let you 'mark' an enemy, then at any point you could use the ability again to teleport back into melee range of the target. the idea was you would build resources (quickly) in melee, spend them at range, then teleport back into melee to do it again

it was a cool idea but they couldnt figure out how to turn that concept into a healer or tank or both, or if they wanted neither. too much time wasted in design meetings arguing about it, so it was binned

some of the internal art had red void stuff (like the emerald nightmare) it looked really cool

And honestly that just sounds like a bad base idea for the class to begin with, for once it feels like scrapping it and repurposing the concept for DH was a good decision instead of trying to force in a void themed class (DK and DH were established in lore for a long time, Monk is easy to imagine and understand, Evoker was already pushing it, but dragon powers are at least a more grounded idea than void).

I can entirely buy that this is what happened. We had seen some Ethereal stuff with Ky'veza and co. hanging around in Azj-Kahet. Then a random Ethereal takes the Dark Heart in the Undermine campaign and the players wrap that up with the raid. And then surprise let's go to K'resh, oh and the brokers are also Ethereals and Tazavesh is also here again.

Because if you had actually bothered to play WoW you would know the Blood Elves exiled anyone not willing to suck on Fel magic, driving a lot of Blood Elves back into the Alliance and calling themselves High Elves again, let alone Theramore, Dalaran and Stormwind already had high elves and in TBC all the high elves from Warcraft 2 came back and rejoined the Alliance.

There was literally an army of High Elves in Legion that showed up to Suramar. The main elf character in the current expansion is a high elf (and sort-of a Void Elf, but not really), as-is her sister. They also had these promo videos a couple of weeks ago in Europe where an Amani Troll stood in Orgrimar, and a High Elf stood in Stormwind, discussing their history. There's nothing wrong with the Dragon Form of Dracthyr themselves other than it just being way too twig/skinny. It just doesn't mesh right with Dragon iconography, it's more of a furry/scaley thing than anything. That's more of what people have a problem with, especially as an existing bipedal dragon that can do multiple classes already existed and with some of them being good that doesn't need to have a brand new hamfisted story to justify said existence.

The human form is genuinenly awful, it feels like a bad attempt at the dragon race in FFXIV, and it shows, especially with how insanely bright colors and the low res textures they use for their scales in Human/Elf form, and it just looks like bad clown makeup at times. The new allied race have that exact problem, I get they're supposed to be a Pre-Troll or Troll-Night Elf missing link, but they look bad, and it's mostly the quills that make it look bad, because they don't make any sense to be laying down like that or that they have any connection to Quilboars. They just look like a weird Nerubian-Troll-Quilboar Sex Child Cult, which again has very early deviantart OC energy to it. But the biggest issue with them is that we have Ethereals right there, let along a myriad of other races. It's clear Dimensius and the new Zone got switched. I bet you we'll get Ethereals at the beginning of TWW.

The only reason to play retail WoW is for the endgame loop, the story and lore is a complete mess. The endgame of wow is more ARPG like than an MMO. If you want an MMO experience you're better off playing a Classic version of the game.

The difference is all in the leveling. Classic WoW leveling is the game, the endgame is total shit that I would never bother with. Classic WoW is about the journey through the zones, and being forced to group up with people on the same server for certain quest and to do dungeons. It just depends on what sort of shit that guy is looking for. The only part of Retail that requires grouping is M+ and Raids in comparison. Are the dungeons and raids still over complicated bullshit with no hint of what the mechanics actually are? That’s one of the things I think xiv has over wow, is that by the time you hit the more complicated stuff, you’ve seen everything the boss can do and you know exactly how to react to it. In contrast I had to download DBM for wow and all I ever did was LFR for the story. Half the time I would get booted for slowing down and trying to understand who I was fighting and why. WoW has its moments, its primarily similar to FF14, a new patch hits, you speedrun the content, and then do nothing until the next patch. Now there are some rare exceptions to that just do the timegated material of course, but they do offer Classic WoW in a variety of forms to just dick around and have fun with, they have WoW Remixes which while sporadic, is probably the best version of WoW for just pure dick around fun by far. There's a lot going for it, FF14's problem is just bad story, which destroys how you feel about your character and the world around you, especially by the time of Dawntrail.

But yeah, nothing wrong with liking Dracthyr and Vulpera, or whatever. It's more just a matter of why you like them and understanding why people dislike them too.

I think it’s interesting that League basically adopted 90% of wow players in 2009. Never made sense to me but I guess “arenas” are compared to leagues gameplay.
