Victor, Doorman and Drifter fit right in with Lash, Kelvin and Abrams, Billy is just a dude with a goat head like something between Shiv and Mo, and Mina and Paige fit right in with Geist and Vindicta. If you didn't like the characters before this update, I don't know what it is you're looking at that's changed your mind. Of the ones in the OP, only Paige isn't in yet. They're doing a 2 week event where they're adding 6 heroes one at a time depending on who gets the most votes, and of those new heroes Mina already made it in.

almost every character and shop items are a straight port from dota. it does add the needed flexibility to create your own builds but the character you play as you limits what you can do. Abrahams will be a much better thank than others for example but you can still build him with more focus on other stuff. I like having debuffs so all my team mates benefit from it.

Items are fine. Even as someone who isn't particularly skilled at MOBA games, it was quite easy to get into. You have presets for items that you can make yourself or borrow so you don't get confused during the game about what exactly you need.

There are 4 slots for active items and they fit well into the game. Some have a passive effect in addition to an active one
Overall as a casual player I find it quite fun. You have a lot of interesting items such as active reload or bonus rate of fire after a dash-jump. Or a rescue beam that pulls allies toward you and is very useful against certain enemies.

I don't think it will work. Without ability points and items each character can only be played in one way. There is even no healer in the game, one character has healing grenades after the upgrade and that's it. Everything else is obtained through items or vampirism (which is mostly also obtained from items).
