>risk metrics and unjustifiable sales targets leave franchises known for great gameplay and quality content without new installments

How do I get over this? How do I come to terms with the reality that no matter how beloved any series is by its audience it's never enough to actually persuade the IP owner to greenlight anything?

At some point, the only hope becomes indie devs making "spiritual successors", more passionate to pursue the concept over money and more willing to risk financially than shareholder-driven corporate entities. Project Wingman came out of a lack of new Ace Combat games. A new game just announced called Wild Blue is totally not Star Fox. Palworld was both a riff on and a response to the lack of any good Pokemon games. And there are dozens of Megaman-likes that are mechanically superior to Megaman because they're made by people that give a shit and with the benefit of decades of iteration Capcom can't seem to continue.

You will play your furry sparkledog version of Star Fox and you will like it.

Jokes aside, apparently one of the OG programmers from the SNES Star Fox is involved in it.
