Each game/arc is vastly better with the context of the games that came before it. Cold Steel is the sixth game in the series, transitioned to 3D, built on multiple games of foreshadowing and worldbuilding, adjusted to new tropes, etc. It's really the best experience when you play them in order, even if the arcs can sort of be "compartmentalized" into their own storylines. This seems like a charming remake of the first game so far, with very different combat.

I think so at least... It mostly landed the transition from the more "classic" Liberl and Crossbell games, looked nice for the time, and did and ~okay~ job of developing characters and setting up ColdSteels overall plot.

It gets shit on (and rightfully so) for losing a lot of the writing quality, underdeveloping characters - especially over 4 games- and playing into more modern anime tropes.

TiTs and T0/A read like mid 2000's anime tropes, while CS went hard into the donut steal oc and waifubaiting stuff.

If you can enjoy TiTs and T0/A for what they are tho, CS1 does deliver on a lot of the worldbuilding and setup for Erebonia.
