Metroid Dread felt kind of like a step backwards after Hollow Knight. I didn't have any cool side areas or optional bosses. It didn't have any really hard platforming challenges that actually put your skills to the test.

Friend begged me to play Hollow knight for like a YEAR, I finally got it for free and it's just a really really bad dark souls clone, almost 1 to 1 made right after DS1. I really don'tt get it. And the 2D gameplay isn't enjoyable/deep enough to be fun.

It's a good metroidvania with a great art style, and had some soulslike mechanics at the peak of their popularity. It's shilled as a 10/10 masterpiece by aesthetic obsessed zoomer gamer girls, still a decent game but it wouldn't have sold more than any other indie metroidvania on steam if it looked any different.

Out of curiosity how much of the love for HK comes from other 3rd world potato gamers?

For me part of what made it memorable is just how few 10/10 games playable on potatoes actually release. In the last 10 years, maybe Dead Cells, Rimworld, Blasphemous. Hollow Knight was the best though.
