I haven't found any games on Xbox Series X that can't be found anywhere else, and have only found 6 on PS5.

But seems to me that there just categorically are not really many exclusives anymore. It's all remakes/re-releases/multiplatform.

In some cases PSSR was actively making the game look worse than the base PS5 at times, and in others the different was so imperceptible you'd have to have a side-by-side to notice anything. Niches and genres form because of the various ecosystems allowing for competition in their own spaces rather than competing with the major group. The most basic example of this is the Vita which had an unbelievable amount of low budget VNs or just general Japanese games that were experimenting and trying because they didn't have to have a huge budget, had multiple niches in an already niche ecosystem to take a stab at, and people were willing to give them a chance. The Soulslike genre as a whole only got as big as they did because of Demon's Souls' positive word of mouth leading to everyone giving Dark Souls a try.
If you want another example then Playstation and Japanese games, Nintendo and platformers or adventure games, and Xbox for shooters. It is a safe bet if you make any of these types of games on these systems because of their built-in niches and why you see Bakeru on Switch but not Playstation, or Digimon Time Stranger on PS5 but not Xbox.

When the Switch 1 released people were aching for new games, and many indies that saw little or no success on Steam managed to eke out their own niches and fanbases because of the situation the Switch 1 was in and its unique ecosystem at the time.
Yakuza, Nier, and Persona all only got relatively big because of their exclusivity to the PS4 in a time when the PS4 was suffering a dearth of games for people to get. They basically had RE2R and nothing else on the horizon leading to people giving them a chance. Now they're all names normal people know. This is by far the most relevant and recent example of why exclusivity is a good thing.

Physical means games go cheaper on console significantly faster than PC and also mean you can buy games that have been delisted. Sekiro was $40 on console when it was still $60 on PC and we're talking brand new copies. That's not even factoring in the used market. PC has access to grey market key resellers but those have actual issues and ramifications for using them. Piracy and emulation is not a realistic benefit for the majority of people and having it as an option is a thing, yes, but not one anyone will take into account but the most enthusiast of enthusiasts.

With the latter you only have to pay for online if you actually plan on playing an ass load of multiplayer games. F2P games are all free which is what the majority of people play so there's already next to no incentive for most people to care, and for the games you do care you have to be a fanatic to even bother. You know how many times I've bought online since the 360 came out? Like maybe two years total of Xbox Gold from 360 to the SeX, three months of PS+ across PS3 to PS5, and one year of NSO across S1 and S2. Covid kneecapped the first two and a half years for both Microsoft and Sony. The fact both refuse to acknowledge that and are pushing for the next gen means they're both disconnected from reality. Consoles are slightly more cucked in the sense that they have to set their console as "main" kind of like a netflix account to do it, but it still works fine. "Always online" has become more of a norm for some dogshit live service games, but the sort of people who play those games are akin to cattle in how suggestable they are.

You should think of consoles as boxes to play third party games, if you buy a console for the exclusives you're doing it wrong

first time, yeah. You have to enable it while online first though (PS5), then whatever games you have downloaded you can play (or disc games, of course). On Xbox Series X you need to set your console as your "home console" (like a netflix account) and then switch it to offline mode.

But needing "always online" in order to function hasn't become the norm yet. Maybe next generation-but with how accessible and mainstream PC gaming has become (as in, an extra chunk of money being the only barrier) means that most people like freedom, and PC is the most consumer friendly platform by FAR-once you have a PC.

I only bought my Switch 1 for Nintendo exclusives. I bought my Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives and because I know the prices will go up so I'm saving myself money now, even though the Switch 2 doesn't have killer apps right now. I also never had a Switch V2 or Switch OLED, so I got a fantastic upgrade nonetheless. I bought my PS5 long ago because I have a small physical PS4 library. The way Sony went around this gen with less exclusives and porting to the PC burned me out so I'm unlikely to buy a PS6 at all.

If people stopped to think, COVID affected game development for a period of at least 1.5 years. Which hurts the output of the PS5 generation. People have very selective amnesia about this because totally-not-platform-warring behavior reasons. Realistically the PS5 has only had 3.5 years of actual development without COVID interruptions. Sony blew their time on an unknown number of live service slop, whether they're fixing this remains to be seen.

Xbox has ceased to be sold in major markets not limited to: Middle East, Europe, Canada, United States (Costco). The branches of localization in MENA and Europe got slashed. Xbox Series announced exclusives have either been cancelled like Perfect Dark Reboot or outright delayed like Fable reboot. Halo Infinite which was supposedly a 10 year game roadmap live service project...was scrapped and the engine Microsoft spent close to a decade is underutilized as they're swapping to Unreal Engine 5 for that rumored Halo 1 remake/reboot (second time). Afterwards all of Xbox's primary IPs like Forza and Gears of War are going to Playstation and Nintendo.
