This is huge. Previously, videogame designers took inspiration from books, movies, plays, other "higher" art sources. You get a distilled inspiration of something much better than the medium itself is capable of presenting. Same thing with anime, the old masters were drawing from outside sources.
Today it's all incestuous and self-devouring. Videogame designers draw inspiration from other videogames, anime creators draw from other anime. It all ends up being derivative and homogeneous, incapable of creating anything truly unique.
