The art director was known to be a fan of 4chan and was hugely grateful to 4chan specifically because /v/ was largely responsible for word-of-mouth and garnering what would eventually become enough of a following/crowd/sales to help make Human Revolution successful and gain a sequel. He confirmed on social media after the fact that he did in post on /v/ personally.

I don't get why more games don't do the Mass Effect thing of importing save files into the sequel. I get that accounting for choices is extra work, but when making decisions about stuff is a major draw of the game it's pretty insulting to have everything you've done invalidated.
Also that's a feature you can advertise to draw in extra sales.
