How do I play horror games when I'm such a coward that I close my eyes in the lead up to jump scares in horror movies? I'm completely paralyzed and can't move when I play a horror game. I know there's a lot of fun to be had in the horror genre, especially games and movies, but all I can handle are books. People say you just need enough exposure, but how can I get that exposure when I can't even play more than half an hour of one, and in that time I don't move? Am I fucking broken? How are people able to consume things with jump scares so easily while my anxiety kills me with those same works? Do I have anxiety? What the FUCK bros??

Are you playing Dead Space? Play during the daytime. The more you play the more you will get used to the necromorphs. I used to be scared of the Wallmasters in the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time as a kid and wouldnโt play the game. Eventually I really wanted to beat the game and said fuck it and did it. Jumpscares are now actually fun to me.

Accept your fear. Do not try to escape it. Seek it out.

Just play it dude being scared is the fun part. You're the rare kind of person that actually gets the most fun out of a horror game because you genuinely get scared. Most horror fans are desensitized as fuck and absolutely nothing phases them anymore, it's entertainment to them, not real fear or horror. You're lucky, have fun with it faggot.

you have to clear your mind and stop thinking, then just do it. inevitably the consequences will not seem so bad. it's like jumping into cool water, the piercing cold wears off after a few seconds and you acclimate.

Literally just keep playing. When I was like 8 or 9 they showed a trailer for Bride of Chucky when I was watching South Park and I couldnt sleep for days. So I started watching scary, age appropriate stuff and kept doing so as I got older. Now I'm 35 and I pretty much only play horror games, even the multiplayer games I play are like L4D2 or Dead by Daylight. I insist on going to see horror movies in theaters, alone because seeing them with others or at home for the first time isn't the same. I live for horror now
