You didn't buy the 3DS version so the series died.

It’s funny how cat people will usually always love dogs too but dog people just hate literally everything else including cates. Animal loving master race stay winning.

Eh, I liked it in my childhood. I also tried it in my adulthood and it held my interest for less than 2 hours. The minigames are neither fun nor varied enough to warrant the slow burn gameplay of your dog very slowly getting better at the wagglan minigames.

I honestly wouldn't mind a virtual pet game, but the gameplay would have to be engaging, and what's the point of making it about the pets at that point. In the current climate I can only see pet games working as some type of gacha with fantastical mounts you can show off online.

What went wrong was they just straight up decided to not make anymore for no reason, they always sold well

it has everything it needs which is basically a touch screen and a mic

How many years ago do you think the dogs on those covers died?

No sir, I don't like it.

why the fuck isn't there a nintendogs VR?
my kids are desperate for it. they play with the robot dog in the Valve Lab free game thing. we got 'pets and stuff' and they got 8 hrs out of it before the repetitive job simulator style gameplay got boring. each pet is a nameless prop, nothing to get attached to, just a task to perform. they got all the achievements to try and pad their time with it too

where the fuck is my pet adoption and care VR game, lads?

I just realised American dogcell autistis will now try to crucify me for lumping cats and dogs together by suggesting a cat game

I enjoyed the Dalmatian version as a kid it just doesn’t have a whole lot to it. I have an actual dog now so I don’t think I’d ever go back to that game.

This would kill as a cheap eshop game. Like you could check in, feed your dogs then switch to another game. Tamagotchi type shit.

Cats are assholes. Nothing wrong with that but they love to bully dogs, which I will not tolerate

It was a novel concept on the DS, then it got old. Btw got picrel as a kid because it was the only available DS at the store, thought the console looked gay and game for girls but ended up actually liking it and it was cool to have an LE DS when all my friends had the boring silver one

My sister cried because she wanted a real dog but my mom bought her nintendogs instead.

I hated the stupid fucking DS game so fucking much.
>mic recognization is outright broken if you're not an english speaker, and there's an obligatory trick teaching segment when you get a new dog so you HAVE to engage with this garbage mechanic
>painfully long unskippable cutscene at the start of contests
The first one is tolerable but I dreaded every single time I had to do the basic contest to get money for my sister.

>fuck up the basic petting by having the bottom screen only show a silhouette
>fuck up walk progression by not letting you set your own path
>agility contests cut
>progression in general is mostly thrown by the wayside so you don't feel like you're doing anything when playing
>schizophrenic artstyle that couldn't decide whether it wanted to lean on realism with its dogs or cartoony with half the objects looking like plastic and using Miis of all things as NPCs
+cats reeked of shovelware, made me realize that there's a surprising amount of nuance when it comes to making casual-audience games.

Can one of you dogcels tell me what the best release of nintendogs is? Or at least your favorite one?

it was a perfect lightning in a bottle situation during the touch generation era as the exact kind of game that appealed to the new audience courted by nintendo: nongamers, soccer moms, old people etc

once the fad stopped all these people who had no loyalty to the nintendo brand fucked off and so the franchise suffered the most catastrophic collapse in the history of videogames with about 20 million players moving on between the first game and its sequel

luckily the switch ecosystem is much healthier now

Western release of Dachshund has the best starter lineup, but Dalmation skips the otherwise annoying unlock requirement for the breed.
The Japanese version has less dogs because pre-3DS era Nintendo was a time period where localized video game releases also doubled as content update patches.

They should do a VR version.

It was always shit, it should have been an animal shelter simulator instead of just a handful of dogs stretched across a half dozen versions.
