You could argue all "third person shooters" are second person since the camera follows (You) around everywhere. A 'third person shooter' would be one where the camera is detached from the player a la OG Resident Evil or something.

no because the camera in that case is extrinisic to the game, it is a "third person." the actors are the player (first person) and the enemies (second person). second person is viewing the gameplay through an enemy lens.

you can argue that the camera can be an internal actor like lakitu but that just renders the distinction between second and third irrelevant and so is a pointless exercise, even if it can be made technically correct

For an actual example of second person gameplay, Driver San Francisco has a mission where you're driving a car but your viewpoint is the driver of another car behind your car
Highly recommend the game, it has a lot of fun with the concept of seamlessly hopping between cars

wouldn't resident evil be a 2nd person shooter?
not the newer ones. The older games with prerendered background and fixed camera positions.

You have to remember where this terminology comes from. In second person text, the text addresses You. In the context of a game camera, this translates to showing everything You are doing without regard for others. What we call "third person" camera perspectives are really second person because they're glued to the player, showing everything You are doing. A true third person camera would be, say, the camera in a CPRG, where it's totally detached from the player character.

It's not correct just because some Youtuber says so. I don't agree with their definitions, I'm not using them.
