I played them all, but each one kind felt like a step in the wrong direction. levels felt more linear and just kept getting more gamey and less like a real alien world. I don't remember the story very well either. its basically 3 whole games of problems to keep Jason and Eve from banging. and 3 in particular pulled some bullshit at the very end just to drag it out.

Gameplay was fine but the writing was really annoying me at the end. 3's writing was a free fall nosedive compared to 2.

The Genesis game is literal eurojank made by one guy in like a week who was basically given an hour to play BM before being told to get going. Blasting Again is kind of a lesser Megaman Legends and also an earlier attempt by Sunsoft to incorporate the WoP book into the plot but it comes off as weirdly melodramatic when BM's plot is about some kind finding a spacefuture tank to rescue his pet frog. The GBC game is vague port of the NES game and no one barely remembers the WiiWare game even exists. As it is if you're worried about missing out on references after BMZ1 they become more love letters to Sunsoft itself along with Metafight

I used to beat the NES every few weeks when I was a kid. It was fun to try to do the levels as fast as I could. Tried a couple of the newer ones but they just weren't the same. They never managed to recreate the feeling of the first one

I played the first one so far, up to the boss who is immune to your strongest gun because Inti couldn't think of a real way to make it challenging. Don't care about the anime shit characters or stuff, feels like a weaker version of a timeless NES game. The thing that made the original, zero, and to a lesser degree 3 work, is they felt like vehicle enviroments designed for a vehicle, with interiors and smaller sections made for going on foot. The distinction was very palpable. 2 was designed like the vehicle was a fucking person, and it screwed everything up.

I've played the NES version of it without guides, and I became lost on Stage 3, some years ago. I will try again someday. Its a good explorative platform game, despite being divided through "Stages" (much like sectors and areas from Metroid), and at least you can go back n' forth through them. And the off-vehicle sequences have influenced Metal Warriors.
