Battlefield 3 has come back to life on PC
there have been full EU and USA servers for the first time in years

The silver lining with BF6 beta is players jumped back into older BF games. I was playing a few rounds of BF3 this past week and had a ton of fun. Played rush and conquest on map rotation including the DLC maps.

Peak times are weekends when Euros arent working or at school

It's got 3 full 64 player conquest servers, none of which are in my region. BF4 is alive on the other hand with a server in my region, not so much this game. Stop pretending that everyone liked this more, you're fucking posers. You don't play it. 4 is preferred because it's the one people want to play.

No. I meant 2042. It has great open 128 player maps, things are happening in ever direction. First battlefield game since bf2 (and 2142 but its basically an expansion to bf2) where that is the case. No, you can use your main internet browser I'm pretty sure. It's non specific. I don't get why anyone would like dislike battlelog. It's not really that big of a deal of how the servers are listed. If 6 had committed to this same approach I'd might have more confidence in its direction. And not the match making shit.

Weirdly I found these games to just be a bit too stiff coming off of modern shooters. Gun sights look weird because of the console resolutions of the time, definitely noticable blurry textures everywhere, and... I dunno I guess they're 10+ years old now and it'll just make them feel a little jank.

I reinstalled Battlefield 1 after the beta and I'm having a phenomenal time. I can't believe I slept on this game, and it has enough population to still get some operations in which is a really cool concept.

Glad to see there's some life in these old games though.

i just started playing 2042 again for the first time in 2 years, they gave it to me for "free" in 2023 and i played it for a week and got bored. didnt take me long to remember why, this character shit is fucking lame
at least the maps are bigger than the tiny bullshit in the BF6 beta, but i also kinda remember not liking any of the maps and thusly deleting the game

If you want dumb spam meatgrinder gameplay you play breakthrough/rush, as in any battlefield game. If you want huge open vehicle focused maps reminiscent of bf2 then play 128 player conquest.

I suggest just playing engineer and then you dont have to think about the characters so much. The engineers are simple and good all arounders. For nearly all games like this a high RPM assault rifle is a good weapon choice, high rpm (dps) makes it good in close quarters, but theyre still very effective at medium to long range using single shot fire mode

I played a 128 player conquest match before that, i didnt remember this game had a mode with so many people in it. Pretty fucking cool, reminds me of the chaos in MAG during the short period of time it was alive. I usually play recon since I like being able to make a spawn point, and having all those spotting assists helps my score/boost the commander so he can call stuff in, but i did try engineer in my breakthrough match since there were so many enemy tanks. the LMG seems to be good but i have a few unlocked and don't know which to start with, I guess i'll just jump around a bit until something clicks. I apparently got a few hundred kills with the M5A3 but i want to experiment a bit

They removed a lot of destruction in 2042 but some of the maps are fine or good. I don't hate renewal as much as others do, but I only like it as a break through map, it's ass on Conquest because of the gates. Iowa Jima is pretty good, battle of the bulge is terrible in breakthrough but good as a conquest map

I played Iwo Jima on breakthrough, it was fucking awful on defense but i think the a lot of the enemy team having levels in the hundreds had a lot to do with it. For example, for my last respawn of the match, me and about 10 other people were instantly killed the second we came back by a guy who was like lvl 358 waiting for us in a chopper
Also, the game made me do a brief tutorial when I turned it back on, and I instantly remembered I don't like Doha

You can grind weapon attachments and challenges to unlock new weapons and vehicles and vehicle equipment against bots. Play a break through vs ai since you'll always be attacker and thus can kill a shit ton of bots. Fuck unlocking the light tank that can place a team spawner naturally. 80 kills with the recon jeep and 2500 damage to vehicles with the AA tank or troop transport APC is bullshit

Defenders on Iowa Jima can take out the attackers vehicles before they make landfall on the first objective. Second objective they have a bunch of invincible cover and bunkers and can also go around to get behind the attackers. Third objective has the attackers split between the two, and it's break through so you can take it back. third objective is a meat grinder room that's absurdly hard for attackers to get a foot hold in since you spawn so close and they're funneled down hallways. Last objective is honestly the hardest to hold because if they're setting spawn beacons, they're going to keep pushing deeper in through the halls and they can come from outside and the objective is always going to be filled with smoke and explosions so defenders really want to have thermals.

And that's for the light tank, which I feel is kind of important to the sandbox, it's faster than the AA tank or the troop transports, and has a canon that means it can fight against tanks, it has a lock on anti vehicle rocket by default for the gunner, and lock on defenses, as well as the ability to put a spawn beacon for the entire team down, while being as fast as the jeep. It's super important to have, but it's locked behind such stupid fucking challenges. The m16 requires like, 50 grenade launcher kills, and the grenade launcher does not get kills until you unlock the fire one, so that's also a pain in the ass, but that's just the M16, it's not essential, it's just a gun that feels good

Btw you can spot as any class, and you can get like 5x scopes on most rifles, and you dont have to use LMGs if if youre playing engineer

I'm glad they stole the body dragging revive mechanic from Battlebit. That was something I didn't even know Battlefield needed before Battlebit did it. Hopefully they make lobbies and maps as big as Battlebit with vehicles at least as good.

I've come to understand that there is a certain type of battlefield player that just wants to hear the sounds of combat around the map but doesn't actually want to be involved in the combat. They love 2042 because they need a few minutes for their heart rate to go down every time they encounter another player. Gameplay means nothing to them, battlefield is all about a certain fantasy they've built in their head and part of that is xboxhueg maps for some fucking reason.
