I mean, yeah. All the people who made good shit, or innovations, are retired, died because they tried to live like rock stars, left the gaming industry for other pastures, or got flung into a closet in some obscure place where they're worthless. The talent behind something like the Red Faction Geomod system are lost to the winds. The people who managed to make Infinity Ward mark the map in 2007-2009 have been shuffled out entirely for contractors and randos no one actually cares about besides one meme animator. The folks at Id have like two oldbies and they're just sorta "who cares when they weren't the people that made Id Software what it was?"
Reminder that when Square-Enix and its various sub heads declare that Final Fantasy VII Remake had to totally redo everything and be pieced as three separate games to fit it all, because VII by itself was "too big" for a modern game, that is complete and utter bullshit because they had to expand shit out of their graphical and chart topping fetish of focus, rather than letting the game have an overworld connecting various areas together, or keeping things relatively straightforward instead of shit hub zones that exist to pad out game time. But the idea of a bunch of different little buildings and structures for one-off areas and puzzles is fucking poison to modern gaming structure and development, so they "act like" it's a long lost art that no one can recreate.
