Against the storm is a 10/10 game if you like building sims
Atlyss is bare bones retro cool but its only $7 so who gives a shit?
Cobalt core is neat, a simple deck builder with a gay ass ending
Gunfire is more chink shit but its its co-op and easy as fuck to get OP items
Bee island is fucking great for $4
Ghost of a Tail is the closest you'll get to a redwall game

The monetization isn't bad at all. You can pay for some cosmetics and a premium battlepass, but all the characters and weapons are unlocked through normal grind. You can even go back to play previous battlepasses.

Yeah it looks like Critter Cove had a sizable patch a week or so ago and plan on monthly-ish updates until 1.0 release next summer from just browsing their steam page stuff quickly. I've wanted a game pretty much just like this for a while and it's just a bit over $16 on sale right now. I do appreciate the warning though.
Right off the bat I really like their character creator, it's nothing crazy but plenty of options and even scaling for thin/fat and short/tall. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself but a good character creator goes a long way.
