Who the hell called it the "best" anything? If anything, the nicest thing I've ever heard anyone say about C:V is "Come on guys, it's not as bad as everyone says."

It's not even a retroactive thing. I remember magazines at the time barely even talking about the game itself in their reviews. They just spent the whole write-up going, "Holy shit I'm so goddamn sick of Resident Evil, and trash like this ain't changing my mind."

The puzzles, music, characters, weapons, and general environments are the best they have ever been.

The game balance, key item placements, and 3D-modeled environment/textures were made by actual imbeciles with no idea what they are doing (and some stupid mechanics like the one that will and was probably already mentioned in the thread). It's a perfect game executed terribly, and the most welcome for a remake (because it already looks terrible lmao)

At minimum, every Resident Evil game before 4 is objectively terrible and, there is a reason there aren't games like them anymore.

They are only liked despite/because of their flaws, and should only be given praise for their influence.

It's more like it should have been RE:4 and nearly could have been and was THAT good, but it wasn't and RE:4 was so different but still great "El Gigante", and CV was really good and it was Dreamcast so it was like master race underappreciated like everything on that console.

It's pretty mediocre. Atmosphere is a huge step down from RE1-3
You can't even chalk it down to real time 3D because Dino Crisis 1 is sitting right there with one of the best atmospheres of all time
