The reason why Shiny Colors is not popular except for the characters is because main game's story is pure dog shit, it's stupidly melodramatic and angsty probably due to the main game director (Takayama) self-inserting his life into the narrative.
He also does pretentious shit like, in one of live shows that uses 3DXR, they scripted one of the idol to not be able to "attend the show" due to sudden-illness mid event, as some kind of magic to make it seem like they are "real people", but it obviously pissed people off because some of them where attending the show for that character.
Seems like they are trying to fix that with Shiny Song as none of that shit is in the game, but then that shitty scripted segment from the live show happened this year, so I think SC is forever going to be a pretentious-ass series lead by an obnoxious director, but with 10/10 characters.

The writing is very similar to Uma in that it's lightweight comedy with some tear jerkers. In that regard I think GK is above the average, with some exceptions like Rinami which is just the authors barely disguised fetish.
And comparing it to SC is like comparing Blue Archive to Project Sekai, it's just different genres.

The only point I give to GK is that their runs are faster and smoother, around 15 to 20 minutes, meanwhile Uma gets runs and scenarios that last 40 minutes to one hour.
Games that respect your time are good and that should be a plus, even SC has scenarios that last 20 to 25 minutes

The problem was that during the huge economic crash in 2008 Bandai Namco acquired many AA companies and Merchandise Companies. The saddest part is they fully own the Gundam license due to Sunrise Veterans selling their last shares.

I do hope Anime/Manga industry does not give them anymore licenses and Bandai gives these difficult short schedules. IP's deserve much better love and care.
