Why is Sonic Adventure 2 largely considered the best 3D Sonic game?

Because Sonic became a punching bag after the Dreamcast died.
Unleashed, Colors, Generations, Frontiers, all decent games however.

Not only the best 3D Sonic game, but also one of the best game of all time. It's basically Ocarina of time if he fast paced platformer, he good story, he 10/10 ost

shadow ruined the sonic franchise

Who knows. You could ask the critics but others might say that it's not the best 3d game. My theory personally, is because of how much work was put into it considering that it was going to be Sonic's last game. Sega saw how much people loved Shadow so much and decided to continue making sonic games.

SA1 is the superior Sonic game with superior music. Gamma is leagues better than the mech stages in 2 because it focuses on speed and controls a lot better. It also feels more like a sonic game with Robotnik being the main bad guy.

2 has the superior Chao Garden and the different missions is way better, and the rank system is more fun to play with. Some of 2's music is absolutely top tier, Rouge's soundtrack is amazing.

Both are good but 1 is better.

Because of Chao Garden, the treasure hunting stages, the mech stages and the music.
